The principal focus of mathematics teaching is to ensure that pupils develop confidence and mental fluency with whole numbers, the four operations, fractions, decimals, measurement, geometry and statistics. All topics below are drawn directly from the statutory programmes of study.

Count forwards and backwards; read and write numbers to 100; count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10.
Year 1Add one-digit and two-digit numbers; number bonds to 10 and 20; missing number problems.
Year 1Subtract using concrete objects and pictorial representations; related subtraction facts.
Year 1Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 tables.
Year 2Recognise and name common 2D shapes (circles, triangles, rectangles) and 3D shapes (cubes, spheres, pyramids).
Year 1Tell the time to the hour, half hour and quarter hour; 12- and 24-hour clocks.
Year 2Thousands, hundreds, tens and ones; ordering and comparing; rounding; negative numbers.
Years 3–4Fluent recall of all multiplication tables up to 12×12; related division facts.
Year 4Equivalent fractions; compare and order fractions; decimal notation; percentages.
Years 4–6Calculate area and perimeter of rectangles and compound shapes; formulae for area.
Years 4–5Read and write Roman numerals to 1,000 (M); recognise years written in Roman numerals.
Year 4Multi-step problems; percentages of amounts; mental addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
